Google is taking on the world in an international training programme that sees its own trainers train on the premises of other companies.
The programme, which will see Google train its own talent, is being spearheaded by the technology company’s chief talent officer, Peterborough, who has also trained with Microsoft and Amazon.
Peterborough, a veteran of Google’s European division, has also been working in Google’s international talent recruitment department.
“This is a significant investment for Google.
It will lead to greater opportunities for our international talent and the creation of new international talent,” said Simon Corvit, a senior vice president of global talent at Google.”
We’re seeing huge demand for our talent here in the US and the world and we want to ensure that we’re able to meet that demand,” he said.”
Our talent is here and we’re committed to recruiting the best of the best.”
Corvit said the Google-funded program would allow the company to better compete in the recruitment and training arena.
“There is a huge amount of talent that is out there but there are a lot of people who don’t have the right experience or the right environment to get the right skills and we can’t be a global leader without having that knowledge, and that knowledge is critical to our success,” he added.
Google, which has offices in London and New York, is planning to launch its first overseas training program in 2020, with the first trainees due to arrive in Britain in the first half of next year.
The training is being led by Google’s own talent recruitment agency, which is working with Google on a number of projects, including recruiting the top talent in China, and hiring Chinese software engineers in the United States.
Corvits assistant, Andrew Wilson, said the UK training was part of Google hiring initiatives.
“It is part of our long-term recruitment strategy that we are investing in overseas talent, which allows us to bring in the talent we need to compete with our global competitors,” he told Al Jazeera.
“In the future we are working on building the world’s best talent training programmes.”
Google also has a UK-based talent recruitment office in Dublin.
The company has said that it will invest $100m (£64m) over the next two years to bring on 20,000 new talent.
