The USSF has announced a new schedule for the 2022 World Cup, which starts March 11 in Russia, kicks off April 2 in South Africa and concludes May 7 in the U/s.
The U.N. has said it will play a special match in the opening round of play against Mexico.
A number of key players are expected to return for the tournament, including the two-time champions, England, and the defending champions, France.
Here’s everything you need to know.
The USASA has named three players to the USSF World Cup team 2.
A total of six players will be selected for the World Cup roster, which will feature the best of the USMNT’s current roster.
Three players — midfielder Justin Braun, goalkeeper Tim Melia and defender Eric Wynalda — are returning from World Cup duty.
In addition, defender Chris Klute and goalkeeper Nick Rimando have been named to the squad.
It’s the first time since 2009 that the US has fielded a World Cup squad with a team in the top six of the World Ranking.
The last time was 2010.
The previous two World Cups were held in Brazil and Russia.
The top five of the U-17 World Ranking have been held in Germany, France and Italy.
In a statement, US Soccer CEO Sunil Gulati called the selection process “an unprecedented process” that was conducted with “intense scrutiny and scrutiny has resulted in the selection of players that are deserving of inclusion in the 2022 team.”
The three-time World Cup winner Nick Rimado and goalkeeper Tim Merritt are not among the players to be on the squad, but Merriff is expected to join the squad when it gets underway.
There is no immediate word on who will replace Merrifield, who has been with the US since 2012.
But the US will be without its top scorer, Chris Wondolowski, who is out of action with a knee injury.
The team will be coached by the former USMID players, with the two coaches named to a special two-year contract that includes a matchday trip to Russia for the 2019 World Cup.
The special deal is valued at $150,000 per year, with $30,000 guaranteed.
A player must be a member of the team for at least five years before being eligible for the selection committee.
The player must also have served as a member for a minimum of three years.
The group is expected at least to be able to field a team for a game, which is expected sometime during the first week of the tournament.
A game will not be played until at least May 7, 2022, which means the US is scheduled to play in the third round of the game on June 14.
The final two qualifiers for the US, Mexico and Ghana will be played in the same day in the final round of games, which are scheduled to take place in South Korea and the Philippines.
There are a number of players from the previous World Cup teams who will be playing in the new roster.
Two of them are former stars like defender Justin Braun and forward Justin Morrow, and two others are former players like midfielder Tim Mel and defender Omar Gonzalez.
Merriffs first match for the team will take place against Mexico on June 11.
Merry will play the final three matches of the 2018 World Cup as a starter, which took place in August.
The World Cup will be Merrificient for him to earn a spot on the US team.
In the statement, Gulati said, “The selection process of our 2022 squad was an unprecedented process that we have been conducting with intense scrutiny and rigorous scrutiny has result in the development of players who are deserving to be included in our team.”
